Niagara Power ProjectToday, more and more companies and states are looking to increase the amount of renewable energy being purchased. New York’s RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) goal is to reach 25 percent by 2013. Presently approximately 21% of New York State’s energy resources come from renewable sources.Sherburne Electric already goes well beyond what the Governor is asking the state to use as a target. More than 85% of the power Sherburne provides to its customers is renewable. Almost all of the power is Hydro power received from the Niagara Power Project. This is more than four times the average amount of renewable energy purchased by investor owned utilities in New York State.
